How do I get KOTOR to run on Windows 7 HP x64?

I have an awesome computer running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, but I can't get my favorite games, KOTOR, and KOTOR II (Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic) to run on it. I can get KOTOR I to partially work, but it glitches out every time I play it, and crashes.. Can you please post a step-by-step instruction guide? FYI I've looked around the web about a thousand times so don't tell me to look it up. I've found articles but they don't work. Also, I have XP that I can install next to 7 if I absolutely need to, but that's if nothing works on 7.
