What is an easy way to deal with minecraft mods?

Hey I would really like to use mods for my minecraft game (such as john smith's texture pack, premium wood pack, animal packs, and so on. I've tried following tutorials and downloading programs such as Modloader and others, but I don't get what they even do, they're not even run-able programs. I have minecraft for WINDOWS, and I have seen the app in the app store for macs that lets you basically drag the mod file into the program and let it do the rest. I'm very bad with dealing with moving, extracting, deleting the certain files, and I'm hoping that someone can show me a program to let me easily install mods for minecraft, because I reaally want mods for it.
